6th & 7th Series – Pat's Perspective

Pat’s Perspective

The 6th & 7th Series is a land & water blind combination.  This is the topic of my discussion.  The significance of the land blind is it’s close proximity to the water.  Typically they will be running along the edge of the water or very skinny in the water.  A dog that is overly concerned about being honest can have a lot of trouble.  A dog that flares the water can be very difficult keep on line.  In both cases you can fail the land blind.  Now let’s talk about the water blind.  You just finished running along the edge the water and now you need to regain control.  Therein lies the problem!  I have always felt that maintaining a soldierly state throughout the land blind will serve you better on the upcoming water blind.  This 6th and 7th series confirms all of the above challenges.

This will likely end all of the blinds for this National.  Now let’s see who can mark.  I can’t wait!

Pat

81. FC-AFC DUCK BUSTER'S RED BARRON, "Buster" LM, Lou Magee

Buster came to the line at 2:27 pm

Land - Busted angled steeply down the hill and straight out toward the small pond. He was stopped about 1/2 way there and cast. He ran left of the pond and a couple of casts beyond the pond he ended up right of the bird. One more cast got him left and to the blind.

Water - The initial line the dog took carried him in and across the cove. The handler stopped him on his path between the two ponds and cast him to the second pond. He swam to the point, crossed it and stayed in the middle of the pond to the end with the help of a couple whistles. He exited left of the blind and ran up to the top of the mound where the handler stopped him and cast him down to the blind.

77. AFC TANKS FOR THE MAGIC, "Maggie" LF, Joe Benage

Maggie came to the line at 2:19 pm

Land - Maggie ran to the small pond with two whistles to send her just left of center. She came out and ran left but only needed two more whistles to change her line and get her to the bird.

Water - Maggie left the line targeting the wider part of Dog Bone Pond. There quick casts moved her right and into the cove. She exited the cove and right straight to enter the second pond. The handler put her on and off the point with two casts, the second of which she carried almost to the end of the pond. Two more whistles and cast got her out at the end and sent her up the mound to the bird.

6th & 7th Drone View of the Test

Water - 2:09 pm - Two whistles to move Emmy into good position to enter the pond. One to put her out of the Dog Bone Pond and into the next pond. Two whistles to get on the point and one to get off the point that carried through to the end of the pond and out.
