8th Series – Update & Conditions – Gun Change

We have just finished the gun change and everybody has cleared the line. The next running dog is #63 – Nitro.

The cloud cover continues to keep lighting conditions similar to the conditions at the start. The temperature is nearing 60 degrees and winds are NW about 6 mph.

We are averaging a little over 4 dogs per hour. This test is a demanding and challenging for the handler and dog alike. There have been multiple dogs handled and the terrain makes handling quite tricky as dogs get behind the berms and water obstacles.

Conditions - 5th Series - Update

We have 7 dogs to run. The temps are at a high of 93 degrees. Working dogs have enjoyed a trip through the water on there way out and back to the birds. Winds are picking up at 9 mph out of the NNE. Make hitting the pheasant on the flyers a little tricky. Shadows are also beginning to cover the area of the fall on the flyer.

Fifth Series – Conditions – Updates

We are about 10:15 am, and 13 dogs have run the Fifth Series that we started at 7:52 am. We appear to be running approximately 6 - 7 dogs per hour.

With the flyer station being across the road, we are having traffic breaks to allow for the dog trucks and spectators to enter and leave the grounds for this test site.

The sun is beginning to warm things up a bit. The current temperature is 74 degrees with a high of 91 today! The wind is light at this time and it is coming from the east.

The dog work has been similar with one handle so far.

4th Series – Conditions

We are now approaching 5:30 pm here at the fourth series. The sun has kept the clouds away. The temps have been warm all day and currently 85 degrees. There are sounds of thunder in the distance. Shadows are beginning to come across the end of the blind area. At this point it does not appear to be causing any distraction to the handlers. It would seem the working dogs are going faster than the judges thought and we will finish earlier today than thought.

Day Three – Finishing 3rd Series – Conditions

As Series 3 continues this morning the conditions are not unlike they were when the series began yesterday morning. The wind remains calm coming from the north, northwest. The sun is out and a few scattered clouds dot the blue sky. The two retired gun stations are in shadow and the flyer station is already sunlit. The handlers running series 3 this morning are gathering at the line and the test dog is on the line at 6:42 am.

3rd Series Gun Change & Trial and Condition Updates

Gun Change - 12:55 pm - the next gun change is after dog 99

The trial has been running for approximately five and one half hours. We have gone through 35 dogs. It is a beautiful bright day but as expected the winds have come up. Starting the day the wind came out of the north at 5 mph to where it is 15 mph with gusts. The wind is having a impact on the dog work.

The throwers and gunners have been doing a great job hitting their marks and keeping things rolling along. There is discussion as to weather they will finish tonight as there is a dinner for this years Double Header winners at the Kahn's guest home starting at 7:30 pm.

Series Three Test Update and Conditions

We are having a sunny day at the National. The temperatures will continue to rise accordingly. Although it is a very comfortable 65 degrees, tent tops have been put up over all the holding blinds to allow for shade except for the final one next to the judges tent top. The wind was very light earlier this morning at 4 mph, from the north. Now as thermals come off the surrounding terrain, the wind seems to be shifting north to north east. The winds are likely to pick up a bit more as the day goes on.

Series 3 – Conditions

With the test underway, the conditions are beautiful. The temperature is 58 degrees with the sun shining in a near cloudless sky. The wind is mild at 4 mph and is coming from the north. Humidity is 79%, but is not really noticeable. It’s a great day in Roseburg!

It's opening day of the 2018 National Amateur Retriever Championship. The skies are over cast this morning with a light north wind. The temperatures are this morning, in the 50's with a cloud cover. It appears the clouds will linger with hopes of keeping the lighting conditions the same throughout the day.

The field is basically open, freshly hayed with bales disbursed throughout. The far end of the field inclines sharply to a tree line.

Today's test a Double and a Blind. We will be bringing you the test description shortly.
